Objectives:

  • CRHP physical therapy department provides quality treatment and mentoring.
  • CRHP orthopedic workshop produces good quality appliances that respond to the needs.
  • Walking and mobile aid workshop resumes its production and provides tricycles and walking aids of good quality.
  • Links with existing community based networks are strengthened.
  • CRHP general management improves.
  • A platform of coordination exists between CRHP and other orthopedic centers in Kinshasa.

ETHIOPIA

VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA FOUNDATION VVAF website

Objectives:

  • Build capacity and strengthen service provision of the Dessie Orthopedic Center.
  • Improve accessibility to rehabilitation services in Bahir Dar.
  • Increase the availability of wheelchairs in the region.
  • Enhance Community Follow-up Unit (CFU) communication and coordination with NGO partners and local government.
  • Improve access to social and economic opportunities.
  • Facilitate expansion of networking among organizations of/for persons with disability.
  • Advocate for greater public awareness on disability issues, improved policy dialogue, and increased opportunities for persons with disability.

SIERRA LEONE

Objectives:

  • Ensure the production, acceptability and affordability of prosthetics, orthotics, and rehabilitation services.
  • Improve the accessibility of services generally and follow-up of persons in need of functional rehabilitation services.
  • Develop the national competencies and skills in the field of prosthetics, orthotics and rehabilitation services through training.
  • Strengthen the national capacities for the management, development, coordination, and supervision of the functional rehabilitation and prosthetics and orthotics centers and services.

CHRISTIAN AID FOR UNDER-ASSISTED SOCIETIES EVERYWHERE (CAUSE) – CAUSE website

April 2003 – 2 year project

Objectives:

  • Support the socio-economic reintegration of amputees, war wounded and most vulnerable in Kono and Kailahun.
  • Promote and support disabled sports and recreation in Sierra Leone.
  • Carry-out advocacy and community sensitization on disability issues in areas where socio-economic activities are taking place.

SOUTH SUDAN

MEDICAL CARE DEVELOPMENT INTERNATIONAL – MCDI website

September 2003 – 28 month project

Objectives:

  • Expand access for persons with disability to orthopedic and physical therapy services in Rumbek County and adjacent regions in South Sudan.
  • Improve quality of orthopedic care for the disabled in southern Sudan through promotion of appropriate and supportive prosthetic technology.
  • Optimize sustainability of the proposed interventions.
  • Increase social and economic reintegration of civilian victims of war.
